Toquepala Southern Peru
One of the biggest copper ore projects in the last years was an extension for the Toquepala mine in the Andes in Peru, owned by SpCC, Groupo-Mexico de, Base don a plan to extend copper ore production to 60.000 tons par day from 45.000 in 2003. MAN Takraf was awarded the contract of heavy conveyor system, and selected Svendborg Brakes for the service and emergency brakes on the drives. Due to the high safety standards in the mine, emergency brake systems on the pullers were specified to prevent uncontrolled runback and runaway situations in the event of brake failure on the drive systems.

Minera Escondida, Belt Conveyor, Chile
Svendborg Brakes A/S supplied its second consignment of braking systems to the Minera Escondida mine in December 2004 for the Norte belt conveyor system, a contract involving close joint development work with German contractors BHP-Biliton and Man Takraf Fördertechnik via Flender.

One of the main specifications was that the brake systems for these three belt conveyors must be able to control deceleration of the drives for a complete stopping
sequence - whether scheduled or emergency - regardless of the product load on the belts. Controlled deceleration requires stopping the conveyors within a defined and almost constant time, bringing them to a soft stop.
