Brake range
Svendborg Brakes produces reliable and safe hydraulic braking
systems for a wide range of applications.
Our engineers design highly flexible power units with full safety
functionality and performance, to give you a choice of braking
options from a single source - guaranteed to suit your
requirement.
And we care for the environment too, limiting the number of
hours the electric motor needs to run, thus saving power and
limiting environmental impact.
Key benefits for our brakes are:
- Few moving parts - easy maintenance
reduced maintenance costs
- Small air gap and few moving parts
short response time - fast braking
- Two different types of spring packages available
reducing loss of force - higher safety
- Drain ports for hydraulic oil leakage
prevents oil on brake disc - higher safety
The brakes are made as:
A fail safe brake uses the oil pressure to keep the brake open,
the brake will close and brake when the oil pressure disappears,
for example in the case of power failure. The brake uses springs to
brake.
With an active brake you have to do something actively in order
to brake. For the brake to brake you need to apply oil pressure (as
in a car). There are no springs in the caliper.
A brake consists of two calipers, one on each side of the disc,
and these clamp in on the disc at the same time. If the brake for
example is to be mounted directly on a gearbox and/or on a system
with a possibility for axial movement, you mount a monospring
brake. The monospring consists of a brake caliper and a "holding"
caliper. Both are mounted on an axis, which means that they can
move and adjust if the position of the disc changes.
Svendborg Brakes manufactures both hydraulically applied and
fail-safe, spring applied brake callipers ranging from 1,300 N to
550,000 N clamping force. The Brake Selector Guideline Table below
shows the different varieties.
Dualspring or Monospring ?
Dualspring:
The conventional Dualspring design with one spring
package on each side of the brake disc is the right selection for
application where limited space and axial movement of the brake
disc is not an issue.
The Dualspring brake is available in a corrosion-resistant
version suitable for wet, dusty and highly aggressive
environments.
Compared with the Monospring design the brake piston on the
Dualspring brake is the
- Dualspring is the right choice when:
- Large air gap is necessary
- For horizontal mounting using SB's standard mounting
bracket
- For use in highly aggressive environments - only one
moving part - piston
Monospring:
For applications with minimum space allowed the
Monospring is the right selection. The compact design makes it
essential to be mounted directly on gear boxes in order to avoid
any stress and bending of the brake shaft.
Low friction slide bars give a floating and self-aligning
operation, which allows for axial movements of the brake disc.
The Monospring brake is available in a corrosion-resistant
version suitable for wet, dusty and highly aggressive
environments.
A positioning system can be mounted on the brake in order to
prevent unnecessary brake pad wear if the brake shaft is not
mounted 100% horizontal.
- Monospring is the right choice when:
- Limited space is required
- Axial movement of the brake disc is required
